Help us Celebrate Cancer Survivors!
 
Thirty years ago, The Reverend Dr. Elaine M. Flake, Senior Pastor of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York, saw the need to provide spiritual support and comfort to persons affected by cancer. From her vision and initiative came the Cancer Support Ministry. Today we continue to offer support to persons living with cancer or newly diagnosed with cancer as well as their family members, caregivers and friends through prayer, education and sharing. We sponsor workshops on health issues and conduct services to remember departed loved ones.
 
We meet monthly to share with one another our experiences, concerns, fears, and joys. We talk, we laugh and sometimes we cry together. We are there for each other. No one is alone.
 
Our members come and go. Some of us are healed by God and leave the circle. Others stay beyond their healing to continue to support and care for new members. And, some members are called home to be with the Lord. Our Ministry has grown and our service extends beyond the Allen Church Family to include Queens and other New York City communities.
 
The Cancer Support Ministry will celebrate our 30th Anniversary on Saturday, April 22, 2023 with a luncheon at the Allen Cathedral Great Hall located at 110-31 Floyd H. Flake Boulevard (formerly Merrick Boulevard), Jamaica, New York 11433. This year we celebrate cancer survivors, not only those who are members of our Ministry, but any survivor of this terrible disease.
 
Would you be willing to donate to help make this event possible? Your donation would help us recognize persons who have been challenged by this disease and have survived it. Their lives are testimonies of strength, courage, endurance, and faith in God Almighty. They are examples to other persons diagnosed with cancer and going through treatment.
